At the York Medial Spa, a large majority of our customers are looking for a solution to their skin care problems. Many customers are looking for a solution to acne. Some people are looking for a solution to the scars that acne has left behind. Some patients are just looking for a brighter glow.

If any of these situations pertain to you, you may notice that we’ll ask how much water you drink daily. This isn’t just a strange way of us starting a conversation. If you aren’t already aware, there are a ton of benefits to your skin from drinking lots of H2O.

Jennifer Aniston says that drinking “lots of water” has been the secret to keeping her skin looking ageless. The Gabrielle Union has been drinking a gallon a day of water since her mid-30s. Even Kim Kardashian has been known to rant about the benefits of drinking lots of water.

Does Drinking Water Really Help with Clear Skin?

The water drinking theory makes sense. Our body is made up of 60% water and our skin alone is 63% water. Wouldn’t it make sense to keep hydrated?

The problem is that there’s very little research out there to say that water is actually helpful at achieving clear skin or just a myth. Since pharmaceutical companies can’t patent and sell water as a skin care treatment, researchers are finding it difficult to find anyone who would fund the research of water as a skin care benefit.

However, there’s no shortage of positive before and after pictures of people who have amped up their water intake for a few weeks.

How Does Water Clear Skin?

Even though there may not be any official studies backed by large organizations to prove the benefits of water, the general consensus seems to be that drinking water helps clear skin.

How exactly does drinking more water clear your skin? According to GoodToKnow:

“Most people know that drinking more water can be good for clear skin and it can also help the symptoms of acne.

If you’ve got dry skin, drinking water will give it more moisture but that’s not all. Water flushes toxins out of your body and anything else that shouldn’t be there so it clears your skin of any dirt and bacteria.”

Your body holds on to all types of toxins. The more water you drink, the more toxins you’ll transport to your kidneys to be flushed out. Some of these toxins are the type to give you blemishes and acne on your face.

Researchers believe that if you can flush the acne causing toxins from your face, while also hydrating your skin, you’ll have a much greater chance of having a flawless face that glows!

The benefits of drinking water and flushing toxins from your body doesn’t stop at a clearer face. As you drink more water you may also notice:

  • Weight loss
  • Reduced wrinkles
  • Reduced headaches
  • Improved concentration
  • Increased energy
  • Boost of energy
  • Improved heart health

Overall it seems like it wouldn’t hurt to add more water to your diet! Try it out and let us know how it works for you!
